IN THIS EPISODE:
In this episode, I am joined by Katie Barbaro, OTR/L an intuitive guide and creativity doula with a background in occupational therapy, trauma-informed yoga, and improv & standup comedy. She is the author of “Fed Up: An Illustrated Guide to Food Freedom,” a cartoon-based memoir about her experience recovering from disordered eating and discovering her true self, creativity, and spirituality on the other side. In the book she (quite literally) illustrates her own process of shining light into the darkest areas of life. Katie’s mission is to remind you how fun it is to be YOU. (It’s so fun!)

ABOUT KATIE BARBARO:
Katie Barbaro, OTR/L is an intuitive guide and creativity doula with a background in occupational therapy, trauma-informed yoga, and improv & standup comedy passionate about helping people live the lives of their dreams by shedding the parts of their identities that do not serve them. Through intuitive coaching sessions, Katie guides clients through a process of discovering a deeper connection to the truth of their being by playfully exploring areas of life that feel out of alignment. Katie’s mission is to remind you how fun it is to be YOU.
Katie is the author or the “Fed Up: An Illustrated Guide to Food Freedom” (scroll down for more), a cartoon-based memoir about her experience recovering from disordered eating and discovering her true self, creativity, and spirituality on the other side. In the book she (quite literally) illustrates her own process of shining light into the darkest areas of life.
Originally from Los Angeles and most recently living in NYC, Katie has spent the past year creating a life driven by her values by traveling around the world, performing, creating art, and building community. She has 16 years of comedy experience and has performed improv and standup in Los Angeles, New York City, Iceland, Bali, The Netherlands, London, and Paris.
Through a combination of energy work and an occupational therapy lens, Katie coaches people on accessing their own inner wisdom and designing a life that feels meaningful, aligned, and fun. Katie’s personal awakening journey began with recovering from an eating disorder and she loves serving people who have a messy relationship with food and body, working together to uncover and detangle the subconscious roots of self-sabotaging behavior in a gentle, loving way.
Katie has found healing by connecting with her body through yoga practice, the principles of Intuitive Eating, creative recovery with “The Artist’s Way,” and embracing radical honesty, which she shares about openly on her podcast, “Casual Ecstasy.” Through a lighthearted approach, Katie invites you to get playful with yourself, become your own best friend, and share your juicy, creative, unconditionally loving self with the rest of us!
“Fed Up: An Illustrated Guide to Food Freedom,” is an illustrated guide to dismantling diet culture told through the raw, honest, diary-divulging perspective of Katie Barbaro, who draws from her experience of compulsive over-exercising, calorie-counting, bulimia, and people pleasing. For people who have grown up in the Western world, there’s a 99.9% chance we’ve been indoctrinated by diet culture and fat phobia, which has systematically distorted the ways in which people have related to their bodies, food, and “health.” Many of us aren’t even aware we've grown up in this cult! Through a series of autobiographical cartoons and stories, we’ll be taken on a journey to un-brainwash ourselves from the cult of diet culture by playfully questioning and letting go of what we’ve always believed to be true. Estimated Ship Date for Pre-orders is summer 2021.
