MEET KARIN LEWIS
Karin Lewis, MA, LMFT, CEDS has been recovered from Anorexia Nervosa for over 20 years and has been specializing in the prevention and treatment of eating disorders since 2005. As a specially trained Certified Eating Disorder therapist, Karin helps clients navigate through the more complex issues that are being covered up by the adaptive functioning of the eating disorder behaviors.
Karin’s treatment approach is grounded in the Humanistic and Relational model while incorporating Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) when appropriate. She takes a collaborative team approach by working with dietitians, recovery coaches, and psychiatrists to ensure her clients are receiving the best care possible.
Karin has played an integral role in opening and running facilities ranging from intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization to residential treatment programs and has a deep understanding of the ongoing challenges of working with treatment facilities and insurance companies. Karin’s podcast, Recovery Bites, offers listeners new perspectives, meaningful dialogue, and candid interviews with experts in the field of eating disorder treatment and recovery.
Karin is a member of the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (IAEDP), Academy of Eating Disorders (AED) where she is the SIG co-chair for the Professionals and Recovery group, National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA), Multi-Service Eating Disorder Association (MEDA), and a board member of the Association of Professionals Treating Eating Disorders (APTED) when she resided in San Francisco. Karin obtained her master's degree in Counseling Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies. Karin is licensed to practice in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New York.
Karin has been invited to speak at numerous colleges, universities, high schools and middle schools. Her therapy services include implementing a Humanistic and Relational model while incorporating CBT, DBT, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), and values work into her private practice.
Karin works with her clients to dig deep and get to the root of their issues. She is committed to supporting clients and their family members through their battle and believes that full recovery is attainable with insight, awareness, strength, support, and courage.
